TSMC’s termination of discounts for its customers who make large purchases may affect the price of technological products prepared for the end consumer.
It is said that TSMC, one of the largest semiconductor manufacturers in the world, has ended discounts for its customers. The Taiwanese company currently produces advanced technologies such as 7nm and 5nm.
Big customers like Apple and AMD were apparently getting discounts on large numbers of 300mm wafers they purchased. However, according to the Taiwan Central News Agency, the rate of discounts made by TSMC has dropped drastically, and it has even been decided that the discounts will end completely from next year.
Over the past few months, numerous reports have emerged claiming that the demand for basic chips made with 200mm disc plates outstrips supply. That’s why United Microelectronics Corp. companies like it had to increase their prices.
TSMC is not a company that comments on pricing in general. It is also unclear whether the plan to forgo the discounts is due to excessive demand or rising prices from competitors.
Rising prices in TSMC, UMC and other semiconductor foundries will inevitably affect the prices of products reaching the end consumer. However, the level of impact will be determined in the upcoming period.
